5 Habits We Must Leave Behind To Be Ourselves
As is the tradition, at the beginning of each year, most of us take stock of the twelve months that have just passed.
We have reviewed personal habits that have certainly given rise to many intentions for change. Different themes that can be related to our work, our family, our training, our health, etc.
We promise to get rid of negative habits, habits that we have identified as traps – more or less big – that take us away from a goal, a dream or an optimal state of mind.
If we have a few decades behind us, these intentions may be accompanied by a certain pessimism because we realize that we have repeated the same things in previous years and that we have not pushed our resolutions to the end.
Yet we should not confuse this pessimism with the idea that we are not in control of our lives. We can have the feeling that our boat is going where it wants, but that does not mean that we do not have any bearing on its course.
It does not mean that the past is a good omen of the future either.
Even though we have tried it before and failed once, twice, three times, four times, etc., that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to be successful the next time around.
To bring you one step closer to achieving your dreams, I invite you today to break down 5 habits that we need to leave behind to come to a better version of ourselves.
Stop punishing yourself for what you haven’t achieved
Time heals, but can lead to the opportunity to experience what you desire, your dreams and your goals.
Life is good because it teaches us to adapt at every moment. Unexpected surprises can lead us to be better people and to surpass ourselves.
It is part of the law of the world to accept that we cannot take everything and that we are partly dependent on the universe.
We are not superheroes and, while we are masters of our own destiny, we should not be too strict in our judgments and forget that many circumstances affect us. That we can’t control everything.
The people we love, the unpredictable and surprising situations, everything happens for a reason.
If you have not been able to carry out your action plan, allow yourself to be imperfect. Believe me, this is one of the best virtues and habits to enjoy because it allows us to appreciate the beauty of life.
Stop constantly waiting for approval from those around you
We are social beings, which involves sharing and learning from what surrounds us and the people we love. Their trust guides us on the path we have taken, but it is true that depending on them constantly does not help us to be ourselves.
Taking other people’s opinions into account in any decision takes us away from our inner voice .
In this way, by not taking it into account, we are no longer extraordinary beings, and it does not allow us to move forward and give the best of ourselves. A strong mind and personality help us to develop it and be able to find it simply, step by step.
Have confidence in yourself and listen to everything your heart has to say. This one knows you perfectly and knows what qualities you should exploit.
Remember, it’s okay to make mistakes. We are human because we are unique and extraordinary. This is where the greatness of our souls lies, in learning from our mistakes and remaining confident in ourselves.
Take off the false masks that protect you
In this new stage of your life, when you want to start valuing yourself, stop and observe yourself using a different side of your own prism as a reference.
Understand that, as I told you before, our greatness lies in the fact that we are unique and extraordinary, imperfect and wise at the same time.
Build a stronghold emanating from yourself, but don’t protect yourself like you are used to.
You don’t need anything to defend yourself, because you can grow even in your weakest spots. Start by being yourself.
Detach yourself from anything that is not positive
Discover and develop your qualities, valuing what you consider to be flaws. But without forgetting that they are the ones who make you who you are.
A lot of people have come into your life. Appreciate how lucky you are to enjoy the company of those who are a part of you, your circle of trust.
You have already lived through many not very positive situations to be able to realize that everything, absolutely everything, even the most negative, has a good side: accepting and valuing the learning done.
Accept these difficult times, which can evoke unpleasant emotions in you. You have the chance to learn from it and above all, as I like to say to myself, to be alive and in shape to benefit from it.
Get rid of thoughts that make you doubt yourself
As human beings, we have a duty to do: to be masters of our own destiny. This task includes the inner wisdom of telling us that “it all depends on ourselves and we can choose what actions to take in our lifetime.”
Doubting your worth will only lead you to pessimism and defeat, before you even take action. You have everything in your power and you are endowed with extraordinary qualities that only you have the potential to awaken and use to be yourself.
